The Classic That Started the Self-Help Industry Comes to Life

I first read Think and Grow Rich in the 1970's when I was a college student selling books door to door in the summer for the Southwestern Company - learning entrepreneurial capitalism. I picked it up from time to time a few times in the interim. In January of 2011 a woman who was in a peer-to-peer entrepreneur's group I belonged to came in to a meeting on fire, telling us that she was listening to Think and Grow Rich on audio and it was really helping her.
I ordered this version and did the same. It has been career-changing in the most positive way. For me, really great motivational books have a depth to them - you can hear some of the same things over and over and then one day it just really jumps up and you understand it in an entirely new way. This audio series did that for me.
Since that first experience, I have been through the entire book twice. Along with that woman and another friend who is a Think and Grow Rich enthusiast we started a weekly breakfast group - and I went through it with them, adding in a workbook and some exercises. For me the key is the technology - having it on an mp3 player so I can listen to it repeatedly. I listen to a chapter five or so times a week before going on to the next chapter. As another note, our group is now expanding by a couple of new members and we are getting ready to go through the book again. I am especially excited because I believe that the third time it will really take me into another level. Hill himself makes reference in the book - along the lines of "by the time you go through this a third time, you will not want to stop." Important to remember that this is a book which took more than 20 years of research to produce.
The narrator is generally good. There are a couple of minor glitches I felt he made - three at most - in terms of intonation and inflection. but it is good, clear and strong. The credit goes to the great Napoleon Hill, who wrote a book that has been epic in its impact on millions - there is a claim, which I believe, that this book has produced more self-made millionaires than any in human history.
Finally, I believe that if a person is considering buying this, the very act of doing so may set in motion those forces which will result in very positive life changes. My best wishes to all who go back to this great book - for the first or dozenth time. Hill wrote several other books, but this is the one which sold millions. Interesting to analyze why, but that is a worthy subject for another review.
